Pilling is the formation of small fibre balls on a fabric surface through wear and friction. Its tendency depends on fibre properties, yarn structure, knit construction, finishing and use.
Start with the product context
A fibre name alone does not predict the final garment result. Discuss the intended use, surface appearance and expected care, then assess samples in the product context.
Review the details systematically
If pilling performance is important, agree a recognized test method and acceptance criteria with the supplier or qualified laboratory before production. Ask that the test specimen reflects the intended material and finish.
Record an agreed standard
Record approved references and test results with the purchase specification. Any customer-facing performance claim should match evidence for the finished product.
