MANUFACTURING & QC · BUYER GUIDE

Minimum order quantities vary by supplier and product. Understanding the variables helps buyers compare quotes and choose a workable first run.

Why there is no universal MOQ

A minimum may be driven by yarn availability, dye lot, color count, machine setup, style complexity, trims, finishing and factory planning. Suppliers can also define minimums differently: per style, per color, per yarn or per production order.

Ask what the minimum applies to

Request the MOQ basis in writing. Confirm whether the quantity can be split across sizes, colors or purchase orders, and whether a stock yarn or existing base style changes the minimum.

Compare more than the headline quantity

  • Price at two or three realistic quantity points
  • Yarn source, color minimum and shade approval process
  • Sample and development charges
  • Setup, trims and packing costs
  • Reorder terms and material availability

Optimize the first run

Start with a focused assortment, shared yarns or colors where it makes sense, and a clear demand forecast. Confirm all assumptions with the supplier; low minimums can affect unit cost and timing.
