Begin with how the garment will be used
A lightweight summer top, hard-wearing uniform layer and soft winter sweater need different balances of warmth, drape, recovery, abrasion resistance and care.
Compare options against a consistent brief
- Desired handfeel, appearance and drape
- Warmth, breathability and intended season
- Wash and care expectations
- Pilling, recovery and dimensional stability risks
- Color availability, minimums, sourcing and cost
- Required evidence for fibre or certification claims
Request swatches and verify claims
Review yarn and fabric swatches in the intended construction. Ask for current documentation where claims such as organic or recycled content are made, and check scope, supplier chain and product applicability.
Test in the product context
Where performance matters, agree suitable tests and acceptance criteria before bulk. Fibre names alone do not prove a garment’s performance or certification status.
